Get Involved with Lexington Alarm

Our next planning meeting is Wednesday March 11th at 7 PM to plan the March 28th no Kings event in Lexington. We are having a local event in the center or on the Green, depending on our permit, and we are also considering sending a group to Boston in rented school buses. Come help plan and make this happen.

Lexington Alarm! regular volunteer opportunities

Newsletter & Communications

News and Calendar Options: We want to recruit a few people with journalism or writing experience to post short news stories (200 words) on items of interest to the Lexington Alarm Community. This can be done at any time with a log in to our news/blog posts section.

We assemble a newsletter every two weeks based on the stories we have published. The newsletter assembly person adds photos if needed, arranges the stories in our newsletter format, and assists in getting out the newsletter on as much of a bi-weekly schedule we can manage.

Our calendar is hosted at Tockify, and it is easy to update. We are looking for two volunteers who will keep an eye out for upcoming events and create the calendar card to go on our Lexington Alarm Calendar when they are of interest to our community.

Liaison Roles

Building Connections: People in Lexington Alarm are involved in many different organizations that are part of our overall mission of resistance to tyranny. As we grow we hope specific individuals will take on a liaison role, using their commitment to the external group to provide updates, news, and calls to action to our 600 members. In this way we hope to get more people involved directly in these activities individually, and as a group from Lexington Alarm.

Outreach & Tabling

Community Visibility: This is one of our most important functions because being visible in the community creates networks of support. Our tablers sell signs, promote actions and events, and engage in conversation. Obviously our outdoor efforts are curtailed in Winter, but we take opportunities where we can.

Checking the Tabling Volunteer box means you are open to taking a shift when it is available and compatible with your schedule. The Tabling Coordinator looks for tabling opportunities, makes sure materials are available, and schedules table staffing.

Social Media

Amplifying Our Voice: We are looking for volunteers who can help increase our social media presence. We have official Lexington Alarm accounts on many of these services. One role is to manage posting for an account under the name Lexington Alarm.

A second role is to post Lexington Alarm material on your own account to amplify it and make our issues more visible. Check off which services you are active on, and might like to coordinate posts with specific Lexington Alarm issues and events, such as when our newsletter or an article is published.

If you are interested in managing one of our official accounts, check that box as well.

Print & Materials

Creating Our Message: We need people who will create, get approval, and produce printed materials for various events and for handouts used in tabling. This role is to work with a designer to create the look and feel that we need, and then to add the content to the handout.

All official Lexington Alarm handouts need to be approved beforehand. For example, what story do we want to tell about Lexington Alarm on Patriots' Day? This is a collaborative role, as many people will have input.

Fundraising

Supporting Our Mission: We have received many donations from people who order signs or merchandise. The fundraising team will consider a wider fundraising effort tied to specific needs. This is aspirational at this point, but could become reality with a committed volunteer.

Issue-Based Work

Focused Action: We have groups within Lexington Alarm that focus on specific issues. One is our ICE Task Force that is involved in several local initiatives to reduce the harm ICE causes in Massachusetts. This task force is for those in Lexington and surrounding towns, as we need trust connections among people doing this work. Currently people from Lexington, Burlington, Arlington, Concord and Woburn are all involved.

A second campaign we have spearheaded for DE-ICE Hanscom is our Massport letter campaign. We are looking for a few people who might help with this as it gets larger.
