The day in brief
October 17 is the first day of early voting in Massachusetts. Cary Hall is Lexington’s early-voting site, and we’ll be right next door at Fletcher Park from 11 to 2 — two canopies, tables, chairs and music — encouraging everyone who walks by to vote early, and giving them something to do once they have.
It’s a drop-in event, more farmers’ market than rally. At the tables, people will:
- Write postcards to voters in a race that matters
- Sign up to canvass in New Hampshire and Maine, observe the polls on November 3, or cure ballots from home
- Get plain-language information on the ballot questions
- Add their message to a giant postcard telling our Representatives what we expect them to do with control of Congress — we’ll deliver it to their offices
- Grab a sign and stand out on Mass Ave for a while
Volunteers make all of that work: staffing our tables for postcard writing; helping people sign up for canvassing and voter protection; and collecting their ideas for our Representatives on what we want them to accomplish with control of Congress — on giant postcard(s) we will deliver to Congressional offices. With enough volunteers we may be able to offer shorter shifts.
