Support Stores Displaying Signs for Solidarity

Here’s your chance to combine holiday shopping with encouraging businesses to take a stand against the federal government’s illegal targeting of immigrants and their rights. LexingtonAlarm! is now part of a nationwide campaign to post Signs For Solidarity in businesses declaring that they are safe places for customers and staff and that they will deny entrance to ICE agents who could harass anyone.

The signs are now popping up in Lexington and surrounding towns. Look for them in Lexington at Center Goods, Omar’s World of Comics, Upper Crust, Maxima Gift and Book Center, Jewels From the Crown, Revival Cafe, Lexington Food Mart Convenience Store, Battle Road Bikes, The Avenue Barbershop and Happy Nails Salon.

Thank these businesses by making it a point to patronize them as you prep for the holidays and after. At a recent visit to Center Goods, we learned that customers had said they came into the store because they saw LexingtonAlarm! and solidarity signs displayed in the windows. Solidarity against fear benefits everyone!

  • 2 Ice Planes Land Same Day at Hanscom

    When Hanscom Airfield was first taken over by Massport, there was immense community opposition in Lexington, Concord, and surrounding towns because people did not want a major second Boston airport, as the infrastructure to support it was non-existent and it also would have changed the character of the Minuteman National Park, nearly an abutter.

    The result was a compromise for a small regional airfield, where jets of more than 60 seats would not be allowed. This agreement, limiting commercial airlines to 60 seats, was codified into law in the act enabling Massport to acquire the airport in 1980. The FAA sued, saying that FAA rules preempted local airport authorities from restricting operations in this way. Massachusetts won.

Organized by a broad interfaith coalition, the demonstrations elevate the voices of those harmed by ICE while reaffirming a commitment to nonviolence. That very commitment has triggered escalating efforts to suppress the protests: parking bans, intimidation, and towing by powerful real estate interests and complicit local authorities.   • Lexington Alarm!’s New Research on Shutting Down ICE Flights at Hanscom Field

    Lexington Alarm! has completed a research project on how Hanscom field was developed as an airport for small regional airplanes only, and how the use of large planes there by ICE may be illegal under Massachusetts laws and regulations. Use of Hanscom by commercial air service is limited to airplanes with 60 seats or less, and the ICE charters are clearly in violation of this.

  • 6000 People on the Battle Green Was Second Largest No Kings! Rally after Boston

    On Saturday Oct. 18th over 6000 people streamed on to the historic Lexington Battle Green to support our constitution, our bill of rights, and the rule of law currently under attack by the Trump Administration.

    We echoed the values the original Lexington Militia fought for in 1775, that in America the Law is King, and we do not bow down to tyrants.
    Appearing the night before on the Rachael Maddow Show, Bill McKibben told a national audience that Lexington would have one of the most significant of the national No Kings Rallies because of its historic association with the Battle Green.

  • Protecting Massachusetts Communities Campaign Launched at State House Rally

    A coalition of immigrant rights organizations, legislators, union leaders, and concerned citizens gathered outside Boston’s Statehouse on Oct. 22 to launch Protecting Massachusetts Communities (PMC) — a campaign to legally defend against the freedom of ICE agents to target, hunt down, arrest and deport the thousands of immigrants and refugees living and working in our communities.

    “Operation Patriot,” the federal government’s escalation of immigrant deportations from Massachusetts last spring netted 1,500 arrests in May alone, mostly in the Boston “sanctuary city” area.”Operation Patriot 2.0”, which began in September, has yielded another 1,500 arrests is ongoing.

    ICE’s growing use of violence in abducting immigrants spreads a constant fear in their homes and work places, not only in metropolitan Boston and its suburbs but also in Worcester, Lowell, Fall River, Framingham and Nantucket. Currently, the operations are reported to be moving into the Merrimack Valley region. Immigrants are afraid to take public transportation, go to work or send their children to school for fear of being trapped in a massive ICE dragnet based on racial profiling, now encouraged by the Supreme Court.

    Contrary to federal claims of targeting only hardcore criminals, up to 80% of those indiscriminately scooped up, detained, stripped of their rights and deported are found to have no criminal record.

  • Weekly Action: Stand Against ICE at Hanscom Field

    Join the DE-ICE Hanscom coalition every Friday to demand an immediate end to ICE deportation flights at Hanscom Field. These operations have forcibly removed over 2,000 Massachusetts residents, effectively stripping them of their due process rights by moving them out of state before they can access counsel. The coalition—uniting Lexington Alarm with JALSA, Boston Workers Circle, Lincoln Witness, and Indivisible chapters from Concord, Acton, Maynard, and the Greater Assabet area—is mobilizing to ensure Massport can no longer recklessly disregard our State Constitution.
